Tokyo, Chiba & eastern Japan

NRT

Narita International Airport

More route choices—and a longer city transfer—than Haneda.

01 · ROUTE COMPARISON

Choose for the
last transfer.

Times below are approximate ride times or practical ranges. Queues, terminal movement and the journey from the city station to your hotel are additional.

MODETORIDEBEST FORKNOW BEFORE BOARDING

Keisei Skyliner

Nippori / Uenoabout 36–45 min

Ueno, Asakusa and quick JR Yamanote Line transfers at Nippori

Reserved seating and luggage space make it easy after a flight. Ueno is not the same station as Tokyo Station.

Narita Express

Tokyo / Shibuya / Shinjukuabout 55–90 min

Tokyo Station and west-side Tokyo without changing trains

Services and through destinations vary by time. Reserve the correct train and keep the ticket for the gate.

Access train / local rail

Asakusa, eastern or southern Tokyoabout 60–95 min

A lower fare or a useful through service near your accommodation

Some services are not reserved and stopping patterns differ. Check both destination and train type before boarding.

Airport bus

Tokyo hubs and selected hotelsabout 65–130 min

A direct stop, large luggage or minimal station walking

Travel time depends heavily on traffic. Make sure the bus serves your terminal and exact city stop.

02 · AFTER LANDING

Four steps before
the city starts.

  1. 01

Confirm the arrival terminal and the correct rail station before leaving the baggage hall.

  2. 02

Compare the final city transfer: one direct bus can beat a faster train plus stairs, platforms and a taxi.

  3. 03

For reserved trains, allow time for immigration delays rather than selecting the first possible departure.

  4. 04

Keep the ticket and seat information accessible until you pass the city arrival gate.

03 · LATE ARRIVAL

Protect the first night

Narita is far from central Tokyo. If the final direct service is uncertain, check current late buses, use an airport hotel, or budget for a high taxi fare rather than assuming trains run all night.

04 · ONWARD CONNECTION

Do not book it too tight

For a domestic flight, confirm whether the connection leaves from Narita or Haneda—changing airports can take several hours. For Shinkansen travel, Narita Express to Tokyo is usually the clearest rail connection.

05 · LARGE LUGGAGE

Reduce the handling

Reserved express trains have luggage areas, but space is finite. Airport delivery is useful when you want to explore before hotel check-in.
