Where is Yamanashi,
and why go?
Yamanashi is a landlocked prefecture west of Tokyo on the north side of Mount Fuji. The Fuji Five Lakes lie in the south and Kofu's wine country is farther northwest.

Take JR limited-express trains to Kofu or Otsuki; highway buses serve Lake Kawaguchi directly from Tokyo.
