The quickest city connection and onward JR travel
Reserved and non-reserved seating arrangements vary by service. Winter disruption is possible, so check JR Hokkaido before leaving the terminal.
A direct hotel-area stop or avoiding a Sapporo Station transfer
Snow and road conditions can add substantial time. Confirm the correct company and stop.
Travelers staying in Otaru without an overnight stop in Sapporo
Not every departure is direct. Check whether the train continues beyond Sapporo or requires a change.
Flexible countryside routes outside major winter conditions
Use the rental-company shuttle. Do not make your first snow-driving experience a late, dark airport departure.
02 · AFTER LANDING
Check current JR and road status before buying a ticket, especially during snowfall or strong wind.
Add time to change clothes and protect footwear before leaving the terminal in winter.
For Sapporo, compare the station-to-hotel walk with a direct airport bus in snow.
If collecting a rental car, include shuttle, paperwork and winter-equipment checks in the first-day plan.
The city is not close enough for a casual late taxi. Confirm the last train and bus, and keep an airport hotel as the low-stress fallback when a delayed flight meets winter weather.
Sapporo is the main transfer for western Hokkaido. For ski areas, use only the currently operating reserved bus or transfer schedule and book peak-season seats early.
Snow makes rolling cases difficult. A direct bus or baggage delivery can be worth more than a few minutes saved on paper.
