Where is Gunma,
and why go?
Gunma sits inland in northwestern Kanto, beyond Saitama and northwest of Tokyo. Takasaki is the rail hub; the best-known onsen and mountain areas lie farther north and west.

HOW TO ARRIVE
Use the Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Takasaki. Kusatsu and Minakami require onward local rail or bus.
